The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Comprehensive Cancer Center
Baltimore, Maryland

  • The “state of the art” research and treatment center on the Johns Hopkins Hospital campus is a 550,000 SF, five-story facility with below grade parking.
  • This “Regional Cancer Center” program includes specialty cancer research labs, high energy treatment rooms, surgical facilities, and a specialized aseptic 64-bed inpatient bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit for patients with suppressed immune systems that required special systems and design features. Concurrent energy and utility master plans were completed to identify the solutions to serve the expanded campus.
  • Special systems include dual ventilation fans on emergency power, cascading pressurization air flow control systems moving air from the cleanest environment to the “dirty” areas, HEPA (high efficiency) filters providing patients a constant wash of clean air, pressurized air locks on the BMT unit entrances to isolate the area from the rest of the hospital.
