Strategic Energy Plan
Spring Ridge, Pennsylvania

  • The Strategic Energy Plan conducted for Dow provides a roadmap along with decision-making factors to navigate the volatile energy marketplace for the next decade or more.
  • PWI performed evaluations of alternative and optimum methods of generating electricity for the purpose of reducing operating costs and improving operational reliability. Evaluations were preformed for peak demand shaving as well as total on-site generation with variations of co-generation capacities. This analysis also included the impact of a by-pass natural gas connection and connecting a back-up PECO feed from another power grid.
  • The life-cycle analysis concluded that the most economically feasible on-site generation scheme resulted in a reciprocating, prime rated engine for year round peak demand shaving; expanded on-site power generation back-up emergency generator; and participation in the Voluntary Situational Response Management Program.
  • Currently the Energy Accounting System is in development where it will serve as a repository for all data management, cost accounting, campus information, supply side management, strategic initiatives, and achievement recognition. This system is being designed as a website on the Dow intranet to be utilized by facility staff, management and employees.
