East Campus Residence Hall (Bell Tower Dormitory) Durham, North Carolina
This new residence hall on the Duke campus is an $11.5 million LEED Certified Silver project with a unique approach to dormitory design.
The building program includes 150 bed residence hall with an extensive laundry, common areas for studying and recreation, kitchen areas, and a separate business occupancy on the first floor.
The unique HVAC design and basis for the LEED certification is an all air, variable volume system, with central air handling units and individual air terminal boxes for each space. The unique control features included carbon dioxide monitoring and control of the outside air intake for the building, building energy and water metering. The dormitory is connected to the central campus chilled water and steam distribution systems.
