Morristown Memorial Hospital

New five story 250,000 SF addition and central utility plant expansion totaling $250 million in construction to support the largest cardiovascular program in New Jersey and a national Top 100 Heart Hospital.
Advanced cardiology program included (8) cardiac and vascular ORs including (2) advanced imaging hybrid ORs, Cath Labs, CPACU, audiovisual Cardiac Classroom with satellite link for broadcasting advanced surgeries including valve repair and electrophysiology.
Mechanical and electrical systems include (3) new 900 ton high efficiency chillers, (1) 500 BHP high pressure steam boiler, (1) 1.0 MW generator, advanced HVAC systems design including HEPA filtration for OR air handling units and outside air monitoring to maintain required ventilation rates.
The master planning effort identified necessary and optional programs of renewal, expansion and enhancement for the engineering systems for the hospital campus. The study recognized existing steam, chilled water, normal & emergency power, fire protection, plumbing, medical gas, all digital communications, control and information systems, and all site service utilities.
Planning concluded the existing centralized boiler and generator plants were expanded to serve existing and renovated spaces, along with a portion of the expansions. Remote, regional (site) generator and chiller plants were found to be more cost effective due to distances in distribution of centralized services.
