Meridian Health

  • New five story building addition and renovations totaling 440,000 SF and $250 million cost of construction.
  • Program includes Trauma Center, expanded Outpatient Services, NICU, Pediatric Center, OB beds, Cardiac Cath Labs, Laboratory space and will add 136 new patient beds to bring the campus total to 550 beds.
  • Mechanical and electrical systems include development of a new central energy plant with new chillers, boilers, 4 MW of emergency generators and 4 MW of co(tri)generation.
  • The Master Planning effort was driven by the concern for the adequacy of the existing systems to maintain service while developing expanded capacity to serve future expansions. The results of the plan concluded to move forward with the $250 Million expansion and the design and installation of a new central energy plant to serve the existing facility and new expansion.
  • The Strategic Energy Planning effort investigated alternative energy sources, centralized vs. decentralized energy plants, and revival of existing energy systems on the campus, along with the study of applying emerging technologies. The life cycle cost evaluations resulting in a new central campus energy plant (hub interconnected with other plants), refurbishment and reutilization of selected plants and equipment, and 100% outside air for new patient space for air cleanliness and contamination reduction.
  • The “Transforming Care” project was designated a “Pebble Project” by the The Center for Health Design in order to examine and document evidence-based design concepts and their effects on financial performance and patient care quality.
